About
the
Fellowship for Visiting Scholars
The
UCSB Center for Black Studies accepts applications annually
for our scholar-in-residence position at the University of
California, Santa Barbara. We are especially interested in
researchers working in the areas of digital technologies and
the African Diaspora. The 2005-06 Visiting Scholar fellowship
continues the Center’s RACE and TECHNOLOGY
(RT) initiative that is concerned with questions of racial
justice and universal access to important information technologies
that are changing all aspects of life for people throughout
the diaspora. We are particularly interested in studies concerned
with the intersections of race and technology from a number
of perspectives including historical, economical, institutional,
sociopolitical, cultural-artistic, global, local, and interpersonal.
Through its new RT initiative, the Center is actively engaged
in the development of new regimes of knowledge and cultural
production that can reframe public debates about the “digital
divide,” universal access issues, information technology
infrastructures, and media legislation and policy.

will be announced mid-April 2004. A completed application
