| Raymond Huerta, is heavily involved in developing Mexican Studies at the Center for Chicano Studies. Since 1994 he has directed UCSB, Querétaro Mexico Academic Exchange Program. This year 37 students traveled to Querétaro for one month with five UC Faculty for classes. He has lectured in the Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies for the last 21 years and is a researcher with the Center for Chicano Studies. He has lectured at the Autonomous University of Querétaro on human rights. During the last several years he has worked on international conference in Acapulco Guerrero on "Identify Ethnicity, Poverty and Transmigration" involving the Departments of Black and Chicana and Chicano Studies at UCSB. Concurrent with his teaching and commitment to the Center for Chicana and Chicano Studies is Mr. Huerta's refinement of a book-length manuscript entitled "Los Chicanos/Latinos en los Estados Unidos: Derechos Civiles, 1944-2000" to be published in Mexico. His research on the civil rights of Chicanos/Latinos in the U.S. has uncovered 30 federal and state cases between 1944-2000, that focus on discrimination experienced by Chicanos/Latinos in the administration justice. Mr. Huerta was the University of California, Santa Barbara Affirmative Action Coordinator from 1974-2003. |
