The Center for Chicano Studies at UCSB serves three functions. Its main purpose is to encourage and promote faculty research in the field of Chicano/Latino Studies through conferences, symposia, lectures, and panel discussions. It also publishes a bi-annual journal ( Ventana Abierta ) as well as a newsletter with the Chicana/o Studies Department that comes out once a year. The Center brings speakers and guest artists to campus and promotes Chicano/Latino music, dance, drama, and art exhibits. It also has an outreach component (ENLACE) that works with Latino students and their teachers in local K-12 schools. It collaborates with institutions in the city of Santa Barbara like the SB Film Festival, the SB Museum of Art, and Casa de la Raza.
