Concerns

UCSB strives to maintain the highest standards for animal welfare. The campus is committed to meeting or surpassing all applicable government guidelines and regulations for animal care and use. A federally mandated campus regulatory committee, the IACUC, and the Campus Veterinarian are responsible for ensuring that animals used on campus, at other UCSB facilities or elsewhere by UCSB-affiliated personnel are well cared for and used appropriately and in minimal numbers.

The IACUC is committed to complying with or surpassing all applicable animal care regulations. At UCSB we are concerned about actual and perceived deficiencies in animal care and treatment of animals used in teaching and research.

All are encouraged to notify the IACUC by contacting the IACUC Chair or the Campus Veterinarian (805.893.5855) to report treatment and use of animals that do not comply with the applicable regulations for teaching and research. All complaints will be reviewed and further investigated as necessary. Anyone reporting such incidences in good faith is protected against reprisals according to federal law (whistleblower protection).
