   Equipment/Instrumentation/Infrastructure:

    Construction Grants:

The National Center for Research Resources held a videocast on 3/23/09 to answer frequently asked questions about the application process for core facilities improvement projects (RFA-RR-09-007) and construction, renovation and repair improvement projects (RFA-RR-09-008). The seminar, now available on demand, replaced the previously planned seminar that experienced technical difficulties.

The Recovery Act Limited Competition: Core Facility Renovation, Repair, and Improvement (G20) solicits applications from institutions that propose to renovate, repair, or improve core facilities.  For the purpose of this FOA, a core facility is defined as a centralized shared resource that provides access to instruments or technologies or services, as well as expert consultation to investigators supported by the core.  New construction or projects that would change the footprint of an existing facility (e.g., relocation of exterior walls, roofs, floors, or the attachment of fire escapes) are not supported under this FOA.

FOA: RFA-RR-09-007

Deadline: September 17, 2009

      1. NIH will use the existing G20 mechanism, Resource Programs-Grants for Repair, Renovation and Modernization of Existing Research Facilities (NCRR).  Proposals will include a budget of $1-10M in direct costs. Total project period may not exceed five years.  Earliest anticipated funding start date: July 2010.  Proposals must be submitted via Grants.gov. A G20 FAQ site is now available.

Note to UCSB Researchers: This is a limited submission program. UCSB is eligible to submit up to 2 proposals in response to this RFA. Recommendations for proposals must be submitted to your respective college/school dean in sufficient time for the dean to forward a Notice of Intent to apply to the Office of Research by 5p.m., Friday, April 24. If more submissions are received than UCSB can submit, preproposals will be requested for consideration by a selection committee of senior campus officials, organized by the Vice Chancellor for Research, to decide which proposals to put forward and advised by Budget and Planning and by Facilities personnel about the project feasibility and timeline. Further information will be available from the Office of Research Limited Submission webpage: http://www.research.ucsb.edu/resources/limited_submissions.shtml.
