Effective October 1, 2005, the Office of Science will require all financial
assistance applications be submitted through the Grants.govwebsite. There is one
exception to this, the Annual Notice - Submission of Renewal and Supplemental
Applications
for Office of Science Grants and Cooperative Agreements, DE-FG01-06ER06-02.
These applications will be received through the Industry Interactive Procurement
System (IIPS) as they have been in the past, and can be accessed at the following
web address: https://doe-iips.pr.doe.gov/doebiz.nsf.
What is ERA?
Electronic Research Administration
(ERA), in the generic sense, is
simply doing research administration
electronically. ERA is utilizing
the web to submit a grant application
to a sponsor and to administer
the resulting award. ERA is the
future of research administration.
This web site is being developed
as a tool to disseminate information
about ERA activities at the sponsoring
agencies and on campus. It will
be a constantly evolving site.
In order for it to be the best
site possible, your input is needed.
If you have ideas about how to
improve this site, please let us
know by e-mailing the ERA
Team.
When will it happen?
Electronic Research Administration
has been a reality for years.
In the past couple of years,
with the onslaught of the Internet
and the World Wide Web, ERA has
changed from being simply a way
to make the job of the research
administrator easier to being
an entire new culture for research
and research administration as
a whole.
What does the future hold?
Any principal investigator, his
or her departmental staff, and
the central administration will
be able to access all facets
of the administrative side of
research from any computer terminal
with an Internet connection.
Principal Investigators (PI’s)
will learn about funding opportunities
and be able to prepare a grant
proposal for submission electronically,
with all the compliance issues
covered in the background. When
the funding agencies receive
the proposal, it is automatically
entered into their management
systems and routed to the reviewers,
ultimately reducing the time
from proposal to funding.
The reality of ERA and all it
encompasses is here—to streamline
and pave the way to an electronic
tomorrow!
How will it be done?
On the UCSB campus many constituencies
have different levels and types
of involvement with ERA. All
are contributing to its development,
understanding, and implementation.
