Federal Data Preservation Resources
Below are community efforts to save federal datasets and websites. This is due in large part to the library community.
- End of Term Crawl Archive (EOT) – The main initiative capturing government websites during the transition. It’s a collaborative initiative led by the Library of Congress, University of North Texas Libraries, Internet Archive, Stanford University Libraries, National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), and the U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO).

- Internet Archive’s CDC Data Backup – Archived CDC datasets prior to Jan 25, 2025, are available here: https://flowingdata.com/2025/02/05/download-cdc-data-through-internet-archive/.
- Data Rescue Project is a concerted effort by DCN, RDAP, COS, IASSIST, ICPSR, and RDA-US to archive federal data and websites.
- Curating for Data Rescue has guidance on how to document and curate the datasets downloaded from federal databases.
- Public Environmental Data Project (PDEP) – Focused on preserving environmental data.
- Harvard Library Innovation Lab– Working on backups of data.gov and other key repositories.
