Please complete the following information and have your Department Contracts & Grants Liaison forward your request, or copy them on your request, to erahelp@research.ucsb.edu. Please note in your e-mail that you are requesting an account for NIH eRA Commons and tell us what your current title is at UCSB. (If you are a PI that is transferring to UCSB from another institution and already have a Commons account, please see the instructions below for Switching Institutions.)
- Requested user name: (You can select any user name you would like as long as it is at least six characters and no more than 20 characters in length. It can be a combination of letters and numbers. Each user name must be unique within the eRA Commons community. Special characters, including spaces, may not be used.)

Please note that your user name stays with you for the life of your career so it should not be University specific. Once your account has been created, the Sponsored Projects Analyst will email you with the confirmation information. Within 48 hours, you will also receive an e-mail from the eRA Commons, which will confirm your account has been set-up and it will provide you with your assigned password. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact your Sponsored Projects Team.
Reset Password
If you need to reset a password, please do the following:
- Go to the eRA Commons website
- Under Commons Login, click Forgot Password/Unlock Account?
- A new screen will pop up and prompt you to enter "User ID" which is your Username and your "Email Address"
Switching Institutions
If you already have a Commons account, you do not need a new account for UCSB. Click on the link for Switching Institutions. Email erahelp@research.ucsb.edu and ask to have your account affiliated with UCSB. You will need to provide your first and last names, and your Commons user name.
